This statistical study aims to track the relationship between the percentage obtained by students in the General Secondary Certificate with their performance in entrance exams and their results during the first semester at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Benghazi. Where this research statistically tracked the relationship between a set of variables, the most important of which are: the student’s high school average, the student’s performance during the entrance exams conducted by the college at the beginning of each academic year, the type of education (public schools or private schools), the student’s gender (male or female) on the prediction The student’s performance (cumulative student average) during the first semester in the Department of Engineering Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, University of Benghazi. The study sample included all students of the Faculty of Engineering accepted during the academic years (Fall 2017-2018, Spring 2018-2019, Spring 2019) and the statistical program SPSS was used (Pearson correlation coefficient and t-test) in the study and analysis of samples. The results showed that the admission mechanism was the most predictive in all years with
weak predictive ability of the high school rate due to the discrepancy in the semester average of students. The first semester, on the other hand, the results of the study showed that there is a direct, intermediate relationship between the entrance exam and the general secondary school, which makes us recommend the adoption of the admission mechanism currently used by the college in differentiating between applicants with the need to develop and improve the quality of admission exams that the college conducts at the beginning of each academic year.
