This study discussed the chronological development, the concepts, the structure, and the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet of Things as an emerging technology and the services and features it offers in life in general, and in libraries in particular. The study also looks into the Internet of Things in the Arab World in general and Libya in particular, and how it was implemented in libraries with different applications. The analytical descriptive style was adapted in this study as it plays a major role in describing phenomena and in predicting the future of such phenomena. The results of the study revealed that the unreliability of internet networks, data piracy, and privacy are major challenges for implementing this technology. The study, therefore, recommends that academic and research institutions should play a major role in spreading and expanding the use of Internet of Things as this can help in achieving sustainable education and research goals. Furthermore, these institutions should assist partnerships and initiatives that aim to bring academic institutions and information organizations together to encourage innovation and creativity in research and development, and digital and information technology that aid and support communication, information and technology literacy.
